A pitless (surface mounted) weighbridge is an above ground vehicle weighing system installed on a specially designed RCC foundation. Unlike pit type weighbridges, this system does not require a specialized weighing pit; however, it necessarily requires substantial RCC civil works to ensure structural stability, accuracy, and long term performance.

The RCC foundation shall include load cell pedestals, longitudinal and transverse beams, tie beams, and a rigid base structure designed to safely transfer static and dynamic vehicle loads to the ground. These RCC elements are critical to maintaining platform alignment, preventing settlement, and ensuring consistent weighing accuracy.

Since the platform is installed above ground level, RCC concrete approach ramps are mandatory on both entry and exit sides of the weighbridge. The ramps shall be designed to suit the rated capacity, axle loads, and traffic frequency, with appropriate slope, surface finish, and reinforcement as per approved drawings and applicable standards.

Proper drainage provisions shall be incorporated within the RCC foundation and ramp structure to avoid water accumulation around load cells and structural members. All RCC works shall be executed in accordance with approved structural drawings, relevant codes, and manufacturer recommendations.
